In Russia, you can adapt your studies according to your preferences, goals and capabilities. You will make your educational experience unique by choosing not only the most suitable program or courses, but also taking into account the wide variety of opportunities that Russia offers. Choose a university based on its character and atmosphere, location and campus, academic activity, career prospects or student community — so that it suits you.
What universities are there in Russia?
There are more than 700 universities in Russia, and they are very different. There are historical educational institutions founded 200 or more years ago, such as the Moscow State University or the University in Kazan. There are more "young" universities known for their innovation and quick response to changes.
Some universities are very large — for example, the campus of the Far Eastern Federal University occupies an entire island. Others are distinguished by a chamber atmosphere, when the dean knows the name of each student, and not only students come to the university festival, but also staff and graduates with their families.
There are universities where you can immerse yourself in science from the first year, work in well-equipped laboratories next to serious scientists. Or you can find a university where your favorite sport is developed — swimming, football, mountaineering or any other.
What you can be sure of is that there is a university in Russia that is ideally suited for you.
Universities and regions
The incredible diversity of geographical regions, university locations, climate and landscapes, cities and towns, cultural and religious environments is something that no other country in the world can offer you. Russian universities are located in 89 regions, and this is not just something about administrative borders: in each you will find a special and vibrant world, natural and historical sights, traditions, local cuisine, holidays, and your own unique character.
When choosing a university in Russia, you can think about what attracts you more. Is Moscow one of the most comfortable megacities in the world, or the classic European beauty of St. Petersburg? The grandiose Caucasus Mountains or the dazzling boundless Arctic? A town of scientists in the center of Siberia — pine trees, clean air and state-of-the-art laboratories? Russian Island campus in Vladivostok, the subtropical gardens of Sochi, or the industrial and dynamic Yekaterinburg?
Community
Do you like skiing, hiking or fishing, running marathons or doing yoga, participating in volunteer projects or taking care of animals? In Russia, you can do all this and find many like-minded people at your university or the city where it is located.
A multinational and multi-confessional state, Russia will provide you with the opportunity to find a close community. Temples of different religions have been built in Russian cities, but you can take into account regional peculiarities when choosing a university. For example, some regions of the Russian Federation are national republics (Tatarstan, Buryatia, the Chechen Republic and others), where many residents speak the national language and adhere to the same faith. Perhaps this is the place that is most suitable for you.
Journeys
You may prefer a large city with a fast pace of life, or a cozy regional center reminiscent of European university campuses, or come to study on the Pacific coast. Even when you are already at the university, your choice does not end: after all, you can go to another city or region of Russia for a vacation or on a short trip to see everything we tell you about while you are a student.
Transport is well developed in Russia, roads and railways are laid everywhere, and international airports are operating. There is even a special government student tourism program — universities in different cities host student travelers on their campuses to reduce your travel costs.
